In a kingdom not too far from here lived a small knight named Sir Leo, who had a very large cape.
For Leo, age 5

For Leo — our bravest knight, even on the wobbly days.

In a kingdom not too far from here lived a small knight named Sir Leo, who had a very large cape.

Every morning Leo buckled on his cape and said, “Today I shall do something brave.”

Page 3
One sunny Tuesday, Leo heard a sniffle coming from behind the blackberry bushes.

Page 4
It was a tiny green dragon, no bigger than a teapot, with tears the colour of melted gold.

Page 5
“I've lost my sparkle,” the dragon sobbed. “Without it I can't even toast a marshmallow.”

Page 6
Sir Leo straightened his cape. “Don't worry,” he said. “Brave knights find lost things. Let's go.”

Page 7
They searched under mushrooms, behind waterfalls, and inside a grumpy badger's hat. No sparkle.

By the river, Leo saw his own reflection — and the dragon's. The dragon was smiling, just a little.

Page 9
“I think,” said Leo softly, “your sparkle comes back when you're not alone.” The dragon hiccuped a tiny flame.

By sundown the dragon was glowing bright as a lantern, and the two friends toasted marshmallows under the stars.

Sir Leo the Brave went home that night with a sticky chin and a brand new best friend.
