“Today,” Grammy said, tying an apron around Olivia's middle, “we are making the famous spiral cookies.”

Flour puffed into the air like a tiny snowstorm. Grammy laughed and wiped a smudge off Olivia's cheek.

They mixed and measured and tasted. Grammy hummed her favourite song the whole time.

“What's the secret ingredient?” Olivia whispered, like it was a very important question.

Grammy leaned close. “The secret,” she said, “is doing it together. That's the part that tastes the best.”
